Numbers are down!

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

Yeah! I am happy to write that Trey’s AST and ALT are down to 89 and 165! It was hard waiting all day Monday and wondering if we should be packing bags for Omaha. He is feeling good and testing mom to see what he can get away with.

Last week we received an original pencil drawing of Christa and Trey that will be used in a book Giving Life , by Tom Falsey. The article in the book will be the one Andrea McMaster from UNMC wrote for the UNOS magazine last year. They hope the book will out in April. My understanding is it is going to be a book of personal stories of organ donation.

The girls are great! Emma just finished selling Girl Scout cookies. Yesterday Anna was looking at pictures of when she was born and she said mom I’m never going to have a baby, they are too much work for me. That sounds just like Anna who has a hard time cleaning her bedroom and pretends she is a princess all the time. And Emma, the caring mother, will have 10 children.

Liver numbers continue to rise

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

Trey’s liver numbers are up again…174 and 278. They have almost doubled from last week when they were already high. After talking with Omaha a couple time, Dr. Langnas (who performed Trey’s transplant), thinks we need to repeat labs no later then next Monday. We think his numbers are high cuz of a virus he probably has but it also could be rejection. You hate to go to long incase it were to be rejection but you don’t want to test too soon if the virus is still in his system. If the numbers go higher Dr. Langnas said he will have to have a bioposy. To be prepared if he does need a bioposy, at labs they are going to draw some extra blood for extra testing.

This past weekend we all watched cousin Tyler Sackett on TV wrestle in the finals for state wrestling. He won his 4th state title making him the 14th person to ever have done this in Nebraska. Congratulations Tyler!

We also attended Mya’s 4th birthday party at Ager Play Center. The kids had a ton of fun!

We are tired of being cold and ready for winter to be over!

Happy Valentine’s Day

Friday, February 15th, 2008

We are ready for a break! Hopefully nothing serious but Trey’s liver numbers are in the hundreds again and the platelet count is down to 96 along with several other numbers out of range. Omaha called and I shared with them that he has had diarrhea since Sunday. We are hoping it is just a virus that has caused numbers to jump. After consulting with Dr. Botha he decided we should repeat labs again on Monday and see where the numbers sit.

Trey had a tiny growth on his forehead that kept getting bigger. We brought him to the local pediatrician and she had a name for it. She thought it was nothing serious and used some medicine to get rid of it. If it grows back we will got to a dermatologist for removal. It has been a week and so far no growth has returned.

We had a nice Valentines day. Trey made homemade cards for the girls and the girls made boxes and valentines for school.

In the spring of 2005 I joined a website called Liver families. It is a support site for people who have children or themselves with BA and liver diseases. We learned so much from the families that 1st year of transplant. They have always been a constant support and area to go when you need answers. The website is celebrating its 2nd year this week. They made a montage and picture board of some of the liver children who submitted pictures. It was so beautiful to see the faces and how the children have grown since I’ve been a member. It is amazing the strength these children have and the challenges they have faced and the challenges they have ahead of them. Included were some children who lost their battle and some tears fell. They are all heros!
