2 years post transplant!
Friday, July 25th, 2008Wow, the days sure do fly past us qucikly. On July 7th Trey celebrated his 2nd year anniversary of his second chance at life. Again we look back and thank Trey’s aunt Christa who donated part of her liver, the doctors, and all our families and friends for your support during Trey’s 2 1/2 years of life. We couldn’t have made it this far without all of you!
We have almost made it through the month of July with no hospital stays! Trey did make one trip last month to Omaha to go over his diet, diarrhea, burning bottom and low iron counts. They decided they wanted Trey to cut back to only 3 glasses of milk a day and see if this would help the issues and help him to eat more foods. With all of his nasty tasting iron he takes his hemoglobin number has remained high but when they did a ferritin study last month all of his numbers were very low. Last month labs showed his liver numbers the best they’ve been since right after transplant. We hope this continues!
He is now officially moved to monthly labs unless something of concern shows up inbetween. His last blood draw he just sat there without a fight or tear. He likes to shoot in his own bicarb in his mouth from the syringe and he can now dissolve the one pill under his tongue. But he still runs to hide and covers his mouth when it is time for the iron. I don’t blame him!
His speech has greatly improved! I think with feeling better and the girls home this summer it has helped him. His favorite words are why, where, oh yeah, owie, mommy, addy for daddy, blue, pink, alliou for Calliou and several more words. He leaves off the first sounds of most words but they tell us that will come along. Everyday he has been learning and trying to say new words.
He continues to show us he is all boy! He loves to jump on the girls, kick and throw balls of all types, help daddy fix things and be rough and tough. He is getting more into daddy and wanting to spend more time with him and doing what he is doing. Yeah!
We’ve been camping and just last week got back from our 5 day annual trip with the Buettners to Calamus. We had a great time and the weather stayed perfect for us. Trey and the girls loved the white sand beaches, the hills and the clear water. We just needed a couple more days.
